How Have I Got Here

Which projects have you enjoyed? I enjoyed the last three projects Just My Type, Human Data and Style. I really liked to collect data/ images, research and create a final presentation/ booklet.

Why? I really enjoy to create hierarchies, layouts and art direct the images. I can spend hours to change the layout and editing images to create an interesting piece of work to inform and let people interact with my work.

Which projects have you loathed? Why? Game design. I liked to think about a problem and create something that could change people’s behaviour throughout a game. I never designed a game before and it was interesting, but in the end I wasn’t so enthusiast about the project like I was for other projects. It doesn’t felt like it was something I could do every day.

Is it more important to you that your work is entertaining or informative or shocking or beautiful? Why? It’s important that my work is informative and entertained. It motivates me to create something that makes sense to me and to my audience, something that my audience can learn from or take note of it, ideal is to create work that can help people to feel better. It doesn’t need to be extremely beautiful or shocking, but simple and meaningful.

During Part 2, has your approach to working on a brief changed? How? Yes, I learned to MAKE more and writing less. I also felt more confident on my skills and started to ‘play’ more instead of thinking if I was doing the ‘right thing’.

When presented with a brief, how do you get started? Are there other ways to get going? I read the brief more times, and watch the ted talks or artist that are addressed with the brief.

What are some of the best ways to develop your initial ideas? Relax, have a walk and reflect about what I already know and what I don’t know and need to explore. Then try to make and create my initial ideas.

What other skills would be useful to learn? Much more adobe skills

How much use do you make of the research you do? 40% of 100%

Which aspects of your research are most useful? Artists, they give me a broader idea of some ideas that I might have

Do you find contextual research useful? Why? Why not? Yes its fundamental, it helps you open up and inform and learn more about your project.

Which have been your most successful ways of visualizing your ideas and developments? Create some photosets, create a tunnel book.

Which parts of your design process would benefit from greater attention? Photoshop and InDesign

What effect does feedback have on your work? If it is good feedback it really helps me to make a different decision on my work or ideas. It helps me to look outside the box and see my project through other people eyes. It definitely helps me to create a better project.

What would you like to achieve in the course of your FMP? Ideal is to achieve a project that can be ‘used’ for real.
